I first saw Josephine perform at an intimate dinner, at a time when she did not yet have a public name. Still, I was immediately captivated. I had never seen anyone play the cello before, and certainly not with such physical presence.
There was something deeply hypnotic in the way she moved with the instrument. I asked if I could photograph her, and that became the beginning of an ongoing collaboration over several years. Each time we work together, it feels like entering a new universe. Most recently, I photographed her album cover. When Josephine plays, she reminds me of an insect. Precise, instinctual, almost otherworldly. Raw, animalistic, and undeniably magical.
